KINGSTON — Jamaican singer and songwriter Ras-I (born Immanuel Kerr) premieres his new single “Ordinary Day” from his upcoming debut album, Tsojourna. With a soulful reggae vibe, romantic lyrics and unforgettable production by the Koastal Kings, the R&B-infused ballad is guaranteed to make you want to fall in love, or at least inspire sentimental thoughts of a loved one. The track has already received airplay on various stations, including a radio premiere on ZipFM by ZJ Sparks, who shared her excitement with her 70,000 followers via Twitter, describing the song as “sooo freakin beautiful.”
Following the success of Ras-I’s previous releases “Crazy Over You” featuring Royal Blu & Runkus and “Know Herb”, the new single has garnered love from fans and music lovers . “Ordinary Day” is a timeless, classic tune from one of the island’s most promising new voices in reggae music. Ras-I describes it as “a pleasant and easy listen. Soothing to the heart, mind and soul.”
The song was written by Ras-I and produced by Koastal Kings (Shamir Walker and Keneil Delisser), with additional instrumentation by Almando Douglas, Kelsey Gonzales, Andrew Stotch, Okiel McIntyre and Zoë Brown. Gonzales, who contributes bass, is a member of Anderson .Paak’s band, Free Nationals. The other musicians have performed alongside GRAMMY-nominated and awarded acts such as Buju Banton, Shaggy and Etana.
“The song literally came from the heavens. Nothing was planned.” reveals the Koastal Kings. “We just vibed and it came together piece by piece and note by note. That’s how Koastal Kings work really. It’s about energy. Good vibes and good people equal good music.”
Ras-I has been making waves himself, performing across the island on shows like Reggae Sumfest, Kingston Music Week and Bob Marley’s 73rd Anniversary Concert. The musician and producer also hosts his own Inner Ear travelling showcase, with successful stagings in Kingston and Montego Bay and a growing, loyal following. With praise from Vashtie, Riddim Mag, LargeUp, BASHY and Jamaica’s Observer, Gleaner & Star, Ras-I is one to watch.
“Ordinary Day” has generated a great response. The single is just a taste of what’s to come on Ras-I’s debut album, Tsojourna, which is named after his niece and slated for release this autumn. The artist, whose inspirations include Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and Bill Withers, promises to make timeless music which is sure to uplift this generation and many more to come.
